About the Authors

Carolynne
Lord

Carolynne is an interdisciplinary researcher who is interested in all things technology and sustainability related. She’s based at Lancaster University at the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business and has worked on a range of topics including adaptive thermal comfort, rural broadband development, digital platform work and the use of high performance computing in academic research. She’s also passionate about using creative methods to communicate research findings, having worked on not just fairy tales but a gallery of exhibits about energy flexibility too.

Torik Holmes

Torik is a social scientist, with a hankering for social theory. He is based within the Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) at the University of Manchester. His research typically focuses on the socio-material dimensions of energy and resource demand, though he’s also written a little about the spatial genesis of casino gambling in Las Vegas. More broadly, he’s interested in social practices, infrastructures, space, and sustainability. He enjoys writing for writing’s sake, which is to say trying to make sense of stuff and covey meaning.

Katherine Ellsworth-Krebs

Katherine Ellsworth-Krebs is a social climate scientist working on sustainable design at the University of Strathclyde. For nearly a decade she has lectured on sustainable consumption and climate activism at UK universities. Her op-eds and personal essays have appeared in Yes! Solutions Journalism, Literary Veganism, Writers Rebel, Fast Company, among others. Most mornings she can be found with watering in the greenhouse or recording content for her podcast Joyful Climate Writing.
